ROLES AND QUALIFICATIONS

York Region Children's Aid Society recruits for a variety of positions. The following is a list of our most common positions.

Intake Worker
Purpose of Position
To determine eligibility to receive child protection services and to investigate allegation that a child may be in need of protection. This position conducts assessments of children and their families and formulates plans to ensure the safety and well being of a child in accordance with Child and Family Services Act and Society Procedures. This also includes the apprehension of children from their families when the safety of a child cannot be assured. The Intake worker provides crisis intervention, short-term counseling intervention services, advocacy to families and makes appropriate referrals (of families) elsewhere in the community. This position involves attending and giving evidence in both the Unified Family Courts as well as Criminal Court.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree / Master of Social Work or
  • BSW equivalency;
    • Master's Degree in a Human Services related field, and a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience working with children and families.
    • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services related field, and a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience working with children and families.
    • CYW and a minimum of three (3) years experience working with children and families.

Family Service Worker
Purpose of Position
This position provides longer term protection services to families that have been identified through the Intake Assessment as families having issues of child protection risk in accordance with the Child and Family Services Act. This position conducts assessments of risk in addition to providing a varied degree of intervention services to families and their children who are experiencing difficulty in family functioning. The Family Service Workers the case supervisor who holds primary responsibility in the decision making related to child admissions, discharge from CAS care etc.

  • BSW equivalency;
    • Master's Degree in a Human Services related field, and a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience working with children and families.
    • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services related field, and a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience working with children and families.
    • CYW and a minimum of three (3) years experience working with children and families.

Children's Services Worker
Purpose of Position
The Children's Services Worker is responsible for ensuring the provision of quality service to children in the care of the Society. The Children's Services Worker will ensure all Legislative, Ministry and Society policies, procedures and regulations respective to the child's care are met. The Children's Services Worker will formulate plans of care guided by the goals of permanence and stability, and implement strategies to satisfy treatment objectives. This position works closely with foster parents; other care providers, other Society staff, community service agencies and community professionals to ensure the needs of children in care are met. As a member of the Permanency Team there are unique duties not carried by other Children's Service Workers. These consist of running Youth In Care Groups, Preparation for Independent Living Groups, and completing Ontario Looking After Children assessments.
